Product Philosophy
Shop3 is a long-term ecommerce frontend platform for OpenCart, not only a one-off theme.
Platform Direction
The project should provide a strong free core for merchants, agencies, and developers who need a modern OpenCart storefront foundation.
The long-term vision is:
- a reliable OpenCart frontend platform;
- community-first adoption;
- predictable architecture and naming;
- strong UX, performance, and maintainability;
- compatibility with real OpenCart stores and common extensions;
- an ecosystem where services, extensions, support, and tooling can grow around the core.
Free Core Strategy
The core theme should be genuinely useful for real stores. It should not be crippled to force payment.
Free core means a usable storefront foundation, clean OpenCart conventions, reasonable defaults, performance-conscious implementation, extension-friendly structure, and documented architecture.
Competitive Edge
The project should compete through storefront UX quality, speed, low runtime overhead, maintainable code, simple admin experience, practical compatibility, clear documentation, and community trust.
Ecosystem-first Thinking
The core should make room for an ecosystem without locking users into hostile restrictions.
Good ecosystem leadership means stable naming, clear compatibility policies, official and third-party extension guidance, optional paid services that add value, and no artificial limitations in the core theme.
Public Brand Site
shop-theme.com is reserved for a polished public product website later. It is separate from docs.opencart.link, which serves documentation generated from GitHub /docs.
Controlled Openness
The project can be open and community-driven while still protecting architecture quality, official branding, and long-term direction.
Community feedback influences priorities. Architecture principles decide what is accepted.
